Tis the season to be overwhelmed

Kid Christmas concerts.

Snack exchanges.

Mailing gifts.

Wrapping gifts.

Worrying about the gifts I don't have.

A sick puppy.

A trashed house.

Volunteering obligations I made when I was apparently half out of my mind...now that I'm completely out of my mind I can't figure out what I was thinking...

etc. etc. etc.

Ahhh, such a joyous season :yuck:

Lucky kids

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingI think they enjoy each other's company :) Josh is a great big brother and Sarah is the perfect idolizing little sister, who is starting to know some kickass wrestling moves. She got Michael in a headlock yesterday and made him wimper LOL. That's a girl.

Christmas Ponderings

You know, working in retail for years really has taken a toll on my Christmas spirit. I'm not a big Christmas gal. Then there's the challenging stuff that always comes with Christmas. Seems like my heart is always just about ready to break for the whole month of December. I have so many wonderful memories of family and tradition from my childhood and it's been really difficult to recreate those - especially since there really is no one who wants any part of it.

I miss having family that is just down the street. I miss having people who want to see us and are excited to have us spend the holidays with them. I find this time of year the loneliest.

We're very lucky, we have some very good friends who invite us EVERY year to spend Christmas with them. It's so generous. But somehow, it makes the loneliness even more real.
I know that not everyone wants to spend this holiday season steeped in traditions, but ya know, it gets hard being the only one who makes a turkey and attempts to make it happen. I'm just not Martha enough to get it done well. And then there is the factor of spending the time with just the 6 of us. I'm used to 20ish people. We don't have 20ish people, but isn't this time of year supposed to be for family??

It would be so nice to have an invitation - we've never once been invited to participate in DH's side of the families Christmas celebration. They do a year on and a year off, which is how lots of people go about it, but, from my knowledge, we've never been invited. I don't know if Michael just hasn't told me. Family lives only 3 hours away.
In the past, when we've had less kids, we would drive 15 hours to spend the holidays with my family. But, never once 3 hours. It hurts my feelings in such a deep way.

I think emotions are just really high this time EVERY year because Michael and I both have birthdays and then boom Christmas and it somehow rips open wounds we ignore throughout the rest of the year. He's a bear. He's miserable. EVERY Christmas. He doesn't talk about why, but I would venture to guess that he feels lonely and left out too. There just doesn't seem to be a plausible explanation for it, other than we're just left out. And, I don't think anybody fares well with that feeling.

So, we try, I try to make something happen for the kids. But, I'm not very good when my heart is broken. Michael tries to pick up my slack, but he's not very good when his heart is broken. So, we try. And we'll try again this year. Maybe Char and Mike will come and spend Christmas Day dinner with us. I hope so. It makes me feel like someone wants to make memories with us.

Meet Gus

This is Gus. He's our new family member. He's Daddy's baby. He's a 3 month old Poogle. (poodle/beagle hybrid). He's a really cutie boy.
Now many of you may think.....WTYukshamiyish are they thinking?? But, that's the beauty of having your own family - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
you get to think your thinks, we get to think ours. There would be no way our family could have a puppy if Michael wasn't home all day long. Gus hangs out with him downstairs and keeps him company. Good for Gus. Good for Michael. Gives me the space I need to continue running this gong show called our family. The babies are fascinated. The kids are intrigued. I think he has the cutest face ever - which goes a long way when you're not really a big dog lover.
Michael adores him and has taken him everywhere with him. He will be his constant companion. Gus already sleeps through the night in his kennel and is a really good boy that way. Potty training is going. He starts puppy school on Thursday. I need a dog with good manner and Gussers is gonna get them.
So, that's what's new today :)

He looks quite similar to Hobo. The dog our family had when we were growing up.

BRRrrrrrrr!!!!!!

It is really cold in my house. My house is only 6 years old. Why is it so drafty??

Sarah went to play outside. Some fights are not worth having. She came back in 5 minutes later requesting a scarf...tied like that commercial (Reitmans) around her forehead and face. Do I watch too much tv?? So, I tied a scarf like the commercial and sent her back outside. Came back 3 minutes later...
Yep, that would be a grand total of 8 minutes of outside time. LOL.

Oh well, I knew she'd figure it out on her own.

Enjoy the Silence

Ahhhhh!!! Do you hear that??? That my friend, is the sound of nothingness. It is a very fleeting sound in a home with 6 people. Just me, the tickety-tack of the keys and the hum of the overstuffed refrigerator.
Is it wrong that it feels utopian to me??
I love this time of night. Everyone in bed. Just me, the fridge and the 'puter. If I knew how, I could meditate :)
OHM......

Josh enjoying a good book

Josh got his book order today. He spent one solid hour reading one of his new books Geronimo Stilton - The Christmas Toy Factory. Considering he was a reluctant reader and a little more interested in playing - he's taken off this year with flying colours. I'm so proud.
He also brought home a spelling test in which he scored 15/16 - that's my boy :)

So that's why he was upset

Poor Mooch. I was just ignoring him - sometimes I'm like that. I put him to bed in a diaper and pajamas. Really, I did. Thank goodness there was just a cutie patootie and nothing nasty for me to find. I really think this baby loves me :)

Chicago trip

A few of my Chicago cohorts. There were only 38 of us :) All parents of twins. We've got Krisi, Capper and PocketAcesMom - I can't believe I traveled to beautiful Chicago to meet complete strangers - it was one of the best things I've ever experienced. Chicago is a breathtakingly beautiful city. It was an adventure and I would do it again in a heartbeat :woot:

Pumpkins and Puppies

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingDaddy, Meggers, Mom and Mooch - Meggie was supposed to be a puppy dog, but she adamantly refused to wear the puppy part :) Shocking isn't it.

Luke...I am your father

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingJosh and the pumpkins. He was - obviously - Darth Vader. Michael carved the MOM pumpkin, Josh did the one behind that, I did the W, Sarah did the little one behind that and then the last one, the bigger one, Josh did at school - last week - so it was kinda mogie - he was grossed out that we used it.
He went trick-or-treating with his best buddy from next door and came back inbetween to dump out his bag. I think he got 150ish pieces of candy!! UGH

Sarah's new specs

Photo provided by The Goose herself. She is far-sighted and will need them all the time. Luckily, she's a very positive, upbeat little chick, so it's no problem for her AT ALL!
